Links

I was sending an Email to Mr. Russ Stedman* (check the 2nd link below) and realized while writing the narrative that this site didn't have a links page. Yikes! How else can I convey to you, oh gentle reader, what I find important and noteworthy on the web? Because that's important information, man, you have to check out what I think is important, right? Well, good thing I wrote that Email, because now I have a spiffy new links page.

Allright, not so spiffy, it's just like the other ones, but it will take you to places you may not have ever been. And isn't that what life is all about?

Music

Bogus Pomp - Great band that gets together a few times a year to play nothing but Frank Zappa's music. Well represented here on mattkoegler.com, but check out their site for concert information and photographs that you won't find here.

Russ Stedman - South Dakota's greatest resource and a just a whole lot of fun to listen to. Great writing, great recording, great humor. In a just world, he would be very well known. "Russ Stedman is proof that enjoyable, Iistenable music can come out of one-man basement tapes." - R. Seth Friedman, FACTSHEET FIVE

Zappa Internet Jams - Site where people with home studios and the occasional band can post their versions of songs by Frank Zappa (does it come across that I'm a huge Zappa fan?). For a good example, check out this great lounge version of Sleep Dirt.

Cleophone - Home of Dave Krejci, a very unique solo musician, writer, the leader of the Reverend Strychn Trio and inventer of the Cleophone. Listen to the Cleophone recordings, an instrument made of piano strings, electromagnetic pick-ups, copper pipes, bones, iron and wire that is really beautiful.

Pretty Little Paw - Pretty Little Paw is Jason Goodyear and anyone else who works with him on a Pretty Little Paw project.  This is an intentionally loose definition so they can do whatever they want without being restricted by expectations based on genre, context, structure, instrumentation, venue, performance, fashion or previous recordings. In other words, it could be anything, so you can't prepare yourself.

Photography

Allejandra Pena is a wonderful fine art photographer in Minneapolis, Minnesota that also does commercial and personal photography. She has a great eye for composition and needs to expand her site. Maybe when she sees this, it will prompt her to do so. You can see more of her work here on mattkoegler.com as well.

Painting and Sculpture

Mike Thomsen paints and builds. The difference is, what he paints and builds is way cooler than what you or I paint and build. For instance, the last thing I painted was a bathroom & the last thing I built were some bookshelves. Dark colors, lots of detail and tough to pin down, which in Mike's case, is an asset. You can also see more of his work here on mattkoegler.com.

People

Dr. Dot is a woman your mother would hate and your grandmother would love, and for the exact same reasons. She's a massuese whose clientele exist almost exclusively in the realm of Rock and Roll. She a gypsy, a world traveler and a hell of a lot of fun to talk to. Her exploits make good reading and I wish she'd get around to finishing her book. You can also find her online here, here, here and here.

Other web sites I've designed

Main Street Moore Haven is the first site I built after taking a quick 3 day course in web design. I already know Illustrator & Photoshop front to back, I just needed to do a little hands on work with someone who knew what they were doing to learn the basics.

Land Design Innovations, Inc. is the third site I built (after this one). They had a web site already, but it wasn't consistent and needed some updates and changes. They really liked their old look, but wanted it a little better, so this was really following someone elses design, I would have never done it this way. However, as they say, the customer is always right, so there you go.

Jerry Outlaw owns his webname, but still hasn't gotten me the information I need to build it, so maybe if he sees this site and paragraph, he'll get motivated to gather and write what's needed to build his site. He's not lazy, far from it. Very far from it, he just needs to take a day to do it, and full, free days are rare commodities for him.
